January 2022 DEI Update
Our staff and board participated in a 10 week racial equity training session this summer with Collaborative Organizing. At the close of that training, board and staff members joined together to create a Cultural Change Agent Team (CCAT), a group that meets regularly to move equity forward in all areas of the theatre’s operations and productions.
The CCAT is currently creating an action plan with deadlines and assignments to review, prioritize, and implement Aisha Adams Media’s audit recommendations in the areas of policies, procedures, programming, marketing/branding, website/social media and the physical space. We will share that plan publicly once it has been drafted.
Some actions we have recently taken:
- Updating our hiring practices to publicize salary range in all job positions.
- Fully digitizing the application for the Artistic Director position and creating a candidate questionnaire to replace the conventional cover letter requirement. Reworking our hiring process to minimize biases by using a standardized rubric and a single-blind reviewal procedure.
- Beginning a relationship with representatives of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to understand and develop a meaningful land acknowledgement statement.
