Poetry Cabaret Collective is a troupe of poets, dancers, and musicians creating wild and intelligent shows that challenge norms and enlighten minds. Poetry Cabaret began in 2012, organized by poets Caleb Beissert and James McKay. Since then, iterations of the Poetry Cabaret have enthralled audiences at such venues as Capital Fringe, Asheville Fringe Arts Festival, The Magnetic Theatre, and Staufferstadt Arts.

About the Artist
Edwin Salas is a passionate artist, adept at puppetry, theater, and dance, utilizing these mediums to delve into dark and complex themes, from personal to political. With an impressive global presence, he has performed in numerous countries across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Edwin‘s artistic journey includes notable co-productions and directing works, such as “Los valles de Urikubo” and “Seven Deadly Sins in the Border.” In addition to his stage accomplishments, he authored the book “Direct Action Puppet Mechanisms” in 2015. Notably, his deeply personal performance, “Dracula killed my Mom,” received critical acclaim and prestigious awards. Edwin‘s influence as a teacher extends to workshops on “Political Theater with Puppets.” In July 2023, he taught the course of “Political Art with Puppets” at Maryland University, adding to his legacy as an impactful artist and educator in the world of puppetry.

About The Show
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.” Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
Run Time: Approximately two hours with a fifteen minute intermission.

Britt Mack
Britt is a powerhouse performer and an original cast member of the Tony Award-winning Six: The Musical, where she played Anna of Cleves. Her unforgettable number, “Get Down,” became a fan favorite as she declared: “I’m the queen of the castle. Get down, you dirty rascal.”

Kira Bursky is an Asheville-based multimedia artist and filmmaker. One of Stephen Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a captivating and whimsical musical that weaves together beloved fairy tales into a dark and enchanting narrative. The story begins with a childless baker and his wife who embark on a quest to break a witch’s curse, sending them into the heart of the woods, where they encounter iconic characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk. As their paths intertwine, dreams are realized, but the consequences of wishes take unexpected and often dire turns.

About The Show
Ready, set, fry! It’s time for the annual “Hot Wang Festival” in Memphis, Tennessee, and Cordell Crutchfield knows he has the wings that’ll make him king. Supported by his beau Dwayne and their culinary clique, The New Wing Order, Cordell is marinating and firing up his frying pan in a bid to reclaim the crispy crown. When Dwayne takes in his troubled nephew however, it becomes a recipe for disaster. Suddenly, a first place trophy isn’t the only thing Cordell risks losing. Winner of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The Hot Wing King the first installment of The Narrative. A series of staged readings featuring BIPOC playwrights, performers, and directors – produced in partnership with Different Strokes Performing Arts Collective. Each event in The Narrative is lightly catered and features a post-show talk back. Tickets are $10 with all proceeds going to the artists.

Welcome to opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society’s newest production, The Murder at Haversham Manor, where things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show—an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Nevertheless, the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences! ABOUT THE SHOW
The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household.
