Our Character Insights section is designed to help you prepare for Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Auditions with confidence. Each character card includes a brief description, vocal range, and age range to help you find the best fit for your voice and strengths. We encourage you to audition for any role you feel is right for you! Casting is open to all, and we welcome performers of all genders, ethnicities, ages (8+), and body types.

Character Description: Highly energetic & joyful, the ensemble will play a wide variety of roles from Santa’s Reindeer, Misfit Toys, Elves Chorus, and more.
RUDOLPH
Age: 15-30
Vocal Range: Tenor/Alto
Character Description: A young buck. Youthful, physically agile, winning heart, vulnerable but strong. Solid singer.
SAM
Age: 30-60
Vocal Range: Baritone/Bass
Character Description: A snowman. A warm, middle-aged man with a relaxed demeanor. A powerful storyteller who never gets in the way of the story he’s telling. A knowing sense of humor; an appealing, warm singing voice.
SANTA CLAUS
Age: 30-60
Vocal Range: Baritone
Character Description: Larger than life personality. Cheerful, but distracted. Agelessly youthful, but should read middle-aged. Strong singing voice.
HERMEY
Age: 15-30
Vocal Range: Tenor/Alto
Character Description: An elf. Charmingly apologetic, but with inner strength. Strong comic sensibility. Must move well and have a strong character voice.
CLARICE
Age: 15-30
Vocal Range: Soprano
Character Description: A young doe. Youthful, physically agile. Strong, willful, loving, flirtatious.
YUKON CORNELIUS
Age: 30-60
Vocal Range: Bass/Baritone
Character Description: A prospector. Tall, large, should read mid-40s. Instantly likable. Slightly absent minded. Physically agile and strong comedic ability.
DONNER
Age: 20-40
Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone
Character Description: Rudolph’s father. Physically agile. Tougher on the outside than the inside.
MRS. DONNER
Age: 20-40
Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano
Character Description: Rudolph’s mother. Maternal, soft spoken, quietly strong.
MRS. CLAUS
Age: 30-60
Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano
Character Description: Feisty, matter of fact, inherently warm. Strong belter.
FIREBALL
Age: 10-30
Vocal Range: Tenor
Character Description: A young buck. Featured member of the chorus. Young, sparky, boyish.
COACH COMET
Age: 20-60
Vocal Range:Tenor/Baritone/Bass
Character Description: Reindeer Games Coach. Clarice’s father. Physically agile, featured member of Santa’s team. Leads the reindeer games with coach-like quality.
BOSS ELF
Age: 10-360
Vocal Range: Baritone
Character Description: Humorless manager of the elves’ workshop. Innate comic sensibility.
KING MOONRACER
Age: 8+
Vocal Range: Any vocal type
Character Description: King of the Island of Misfit Toys. Strong, decisive personality. Stern but warm.
