Meet an Actor: Meghan Marcelo

Meghan Marcelo stars in Native Gardens as Tania – a very pregnant PhD candidate living in Washington DC. We got to ask Meghan a few questions about her experience as Tania and about why audiences should come see Native Gardens.

ACT: What do you think is important and relevant about doing this play at this time?
Meghan: I think this play addresses a lot of serious subjects with humor and empathy for all the characters. There’s no real villain, but events still get out of hand in the way things sometimes do when you care about things and have to share space with people who have different lived experiences. So long as people are still listening to each other, heated exchanges can be a starting point for real conversations and growth.

ACT: How do you relate to your character? What’s the most fun part of playing your character?
Meghan: I love Tania’s earnestness. She is very passionate about biodiversity and she can go on and on and on about it. It’s fun to show passion about a subject while knowing as the actor she’s sometimes bulldozing those around her.

ACT: What are you most excited for audiences to see/experience in this show?
Meghan: I want audiences to laugh. I hope the experience is a good time for everyone and I hope that people relate to all the characters and find some space to laugh at our antics around serious topics.

ACT: What do you like about doing shows here at Asheville Community Theatre?
Meghan: This is my second show with ACT this season. When I moved back to Asheville I wanted to reconnect with an art form I’d loved working in in the past and the community at ACT has been wonderfully welcoming and helpful as I’ve tried to find my feet again on stage and in my community.

Don’t miss Meghan and the rest of this fantastic cast on stage this month in Native Gardens! The show runs February 10-26, 2023 Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:30 pm. Get your tickets today!
