About the Show
Big Business and the BeeBoos is a bold, immersive performance exploring capitalism, conformity, and resistance through movement, masks, and surreal spectacle. The show breaks the barrier between audience and ensemble, as the mysterious BeeBoos—uniformed, masked figures representing a collective public—move throughout the space, engaging directly with viewers.
At the heart of the story is Y, a young queer figure who stands apart in a world increasingly shaped by the seductive forces of power and progress. As larger-than-life personalities like Big Business and his animated sidekick Mr. Beeps take center stage, the BeeBoos are drawn deeper into a system that demands everything, even their hearts.
Blending satire with poignancy, Big Business and the BeeBoos offers a timely reflection on agency, identity, and collective action. While the challenges faced are daunting, the performance closes not with despair, but with a gesture toward hope, community, and the possibility of change.
About the Partnership
This performance is part of an ongoing collaboration between Asheville Fringe Festival and Asheville Community Theatre. Each month, Asheville Fringe takes over 35below to present innovative, genre-defying work from local, regional, and national artists. The partnership transforms 35below into a home for adventurous performances and new artistic voices.
