5 Reasons to Be Excited for Tanglewood Summer!

Hello! I’m Zoe Zelonky and I’m the new Education Director at Asheville Community Theatre. That also makes me the Camp Director for Tanglewood Summer Camps! I am SO excited to get started. Whether this is your first summer with ACT or you’ve spent your summers with ACT for many years, we have tons of great programming ready for you! Though there are hundreds of reasons to be excited for summer, I’ve whittled it down to my top 5 for you! 

1. There’s Something for Everybody

Tanglewood Summer is the perfect place for everybody! No matter your age or your level of experience, if theatre is your thing or if theatre is not your thing (yet!), our talented and energetic staff is ready to meet you where you’re at and help you have the best summer ever! 2. Making New Connections

At Tanglewood Summer Camps, we create a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone can bond and thrive! Some people are returning and seeing friends for the first time since last summer, while others are trying something new and may not know anybody yet. That’s why we spend a lot of the first day creating new bonds that strengthen through theatre games, trust exercises, and all the fun you can possibly imagine. The friends you make at camp can have an impact on your heart for a lifetime! 

3. Summer of Stars

At our Summer Conservatory, our advanced students will have the opportunity to meet with and learn from industry professionals from all over the country. Among these superstars will be cast members of Broadway national tours, voice actors, creature performers, and more! There’s more to a career in the arts than meets the eye, and these professionals are ready to share their stories with our Tanglewood campers!

4. Tanglewood’s FIRST Summer Musical

We are very excited to have our very first Summer Musical production this summer! In this camp, students will go through the entire production process from start to finish. Beginning with auditions on the first day, campers will then learn choreography, music, and blocking, have costume fittings, help create props, and put together a show that ends in three public performances for our community. Not the onstage type? We’re also offering a tech camp for Seussical, where students will design, create, and serve as tech crew for the full production! Be a part of the magic and discover what it takes to put on a full show in only two weeks! 

5. The Magic of Summer

There’s magic in summer camp. Everyone is there to experience something new and have as much fun as possible – from the youngest camper to the most experienced counselor. Where everyone is there to make a friend and be one, where everyone is ready to create a show from start to finish, where everyone is encouraged to be themselves – Tanglewood Summer is where we all shine! 

As I often say, summer is my JAM! I have been attending summer camp since I was an itty bitty baby, following my mom the program director and my dad the songleader. As a camper, I participated in countless summer programs – mostly theatre camps, but also film camps, sleepaway camps, and even a soccer camp! I volunteered at my local theatre’s Summer Conservatory which led me to discover my passion for theatre education, which in turn led me to the Education Director position I’m in today. I guess what I’m trying to say is summer speaks to me, and I can’t wait for my first Summer with Tanglewood!
