September 1964, New York City: Former actress and now very wealthy Mrs. Belmont hopes to persuade Marc Chagall to paint the murals for the new Metropolitan Opera House. During their conversation, Chagall reveals the struggles of having been a Jew in Russia, France and the United States during two world wars, and beyond. This beautiful play explores a love of theater and music, and what an artist feels about his or her own work.
