The mission of Asheville Community Theatre is to provide entertainment, enrichment, and education through the practice and celebration of the theatre arts.

Formed in 1946 by community members, Asheville Community Theatre is passionate about our mission. ACT is the oldest continuously operating theatre in Asheville and one of the oldest community theatres in the nation. Our current home at 35 East Walnut Street was built in 1972 and we’re literally bursting at the seams!

Asheville Community Theatre is busy every day of the year, welcoming community members, children and visitors to Asheville to our space. Our educational programming for children and youth is especially popular. Demand for programming is so high that we have wait lists almost as soon as we release the names of the classes. Our summer camp sessions sell out every year.

Today at ACT:

  • 4,700 children participated in 2015-16
  • 6,200 children participated in 2017-18
  • 10,700+ can be served once Phase 2 is complete

At Asheville Community Theatre 28% of children served receive some form of financial assistance.

The “A Space to Shine” Campaign is Phase 2 (the final phase) of our Capital Campaign. It addresses our space needs and secures ACT for the future … for the children and for the community.
