Production Classes, Top Hat and Student Matinees!

Education is just another way to "Get in on the ACT." Asheville Community Theatre's Tanglewood Youth Theatre has long been a successful and inspirational part of children’s creative education in Western North Carolina. Our theatre camp and classes have been popular favorites for years and are well-suited for any child interested in exploring the exciting world of theatre. Our faculty represents some of the finest talent in the area, and we are thrilled to have them at Tanglewood.

Classes offers students the opportunity to delve deeper into various aspects of theatre. Classes fill quickly on a first-come, first-serve basis. Class size is limited to ensure high quality of education, and we reserve the right to add classes to the schedule or cancel a class based on enrollment. Below is the announcement for the first of three production classes planned for 2010-2011. Announcements of other fall or spring classes will be made later this summer.

TOP HAT

(Talented Outstanding Performers Homeschool Acting Troupe)

We are entering our 4th year and going strong!  There are a few changes this year.  The biggest is the switch in the day of the week. Classes will now be on WEDNESDAY.

There are also 2 choices for a class time.   10:00-11:30 AM or 12:00 to 1:30 PM

Both class times are for kids age 8 - 12, and will meet for 1.5 hours each week and put on a +/- 30-minute play at the end of each session.  In this class they will learn basic theatre skills, create a small original piece and work as a team on a scripted skit as well as having fun. This class will be limited to 10/12 spaces.

The TOP HAT classes meet at ACT, Asheville Community Theatre.  In the 35 Below studio theatre.  Directions can be found here http://www.ashevilletheatre.org/map.html

Other Production Classes Include:

13 (the Musical)

Directed by Josh Batenhorst. Rehearsals begin the week of January 3rd with Performance Dates March 11-13

In a middle school in Appleton, Indiana thirteen 13 year olds leap from childhood into a whole new fantastic and frightening era: their teens. Like kids everywhere, they suddenly are trying to survive classes, navigate cliques and be in with the right crowd and “cool”.  In 100 song-filled minutes 13 is their provoking, engaging story, told with contagious energy and humor with all-teen performers and a teen band.

Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown has composed the songs for this new musical comedy – smart, magnetic, and upbeat -- sure to speak to and captivate current, former, and soon to be teens.

Annie, Junior

Directed by Jerry Crouch. Rehearsals begin the week of April 18th with Performance Dates June 23-25

Its upbeat plot and flamboyant characters have made Annie one of the most beloved musicals in history--what girl hasn't dreamed of performing the title role or playing the outrageous Miss Hannigan? Cast size is flexible, and the age range of the parts makes Annie Junior ideal for productions involving different grade levels, or for middle school where students may be maturing at different rates. The bright, tuneful score is easy to sing and filled with familiar numbers.

Students will learn all the elements involved in a musical production.  The cost for the class is $300 (10% off if paid two weeks before the first day of class). Registration can be completed using this form: 2010ClassReg.Form or by calling our Box Office at 254-1320 or through e-mail at: education@ashevilletheatre.org.
